Today we just received the 1:18 Honda Civic Type R EK9, the first Civic to receive the Type R badge ever and very important an officially licensed product. A model that you wish to have in your garage and on your display as well.
The scale replica is quite popular towards collectors, many of you already order it and many photos are available on the net. Despite this we still want to have our honest opinion about it. The model comes in a safe package, a styrofoam box and a card made cover without any particular print, only the manufacturer name on it. It comes along with many accessories: an engine hanger, a 1:18 replica of the B16B engine, beautiful detailed guested in a transparent case, a microfiber cloth, the certificate, because in grey is limited to 499 pieces |
and every certificate is individually numbered, a QC certificate of originality shaped as a Honda badge (nice idea), an opening tool, a presentation booklet and a variety of 4 stickers to be applied later on the model plates. Great idea to add the engine replica and the hanger tool together with the 1:18 model.
The model is metallic die cast crafted, including the bumpers and skirts, well shaped and proportioned. It looks spot on, I was expected to be heavier, with a good paint job and a high finishing level. I said this will be an honest review so I need to mention some imperfections. First, on the front bumper some mold tracks can be seen only in strong light, I'm sure many collectors will never observe this and I won't consider it as a major issue neither. On the other way, the gap resulted between the trunk and the bumper is a little higher on the right, near the tail light. This is easily visible when observing the rear side of the model.

The lights are spot on, the type R decals were applied correctly, I like how they made the specific red badges and how the metallic radiator is visible trough the perforated grill.
For the wheels, they replicated beautiful the white championship color for the rims, specific for this Type R model, the individually painted lug nuts and the in scale inscriptions on the tire's wall. The breake system is visible behind the wheels, and keeps the same simple look from the 1:1 parts, the main detail to note is the metallic coated disks.

This is a RHD model and the cockpit was very nice reproduced and detailed. I need to mention the high quality of the plastic and the missing mold tracks on the surfaces, very annoying from other manufacturers. The Recaro seats were made of a textured material, a very cool detail and provide textile made seat belts. Of course the interior is carpeted with the specific red flock and I admit is looking so damn well. The same red textured material was used for the arm rests and the pedals were aluminium painted to look true to the original. I see here a great attention to the details from the manufacturer.
The trunk is opening on very fine metalic hinges, is provided with two functional struts, has flock and a separate cover to be mounted on, later. |
On the engine bay, the things become very interesting, because Motorhelix not only kept the old school tradition of metallic body casting, but they put a really great engine replica inside. We have a great crafted engine, with a lot of details, wires and tubes, single developed pieces and legible labels. Not missing the real metallic hinges for the bonnet and the original pattern replicated underneath together with some warning labels. Impressive effort here from Motorhelix.
Underneath, many details of the suspension, the oil bay and all the exhaust system , individually developed and finished with a mettalic muffler, remain visible. |
