I was always attracted by cars. Not so much about their power, history or racing pedigree as by their bodies, lines and curves of design. And the 60's gave a lot of reasons to my eyes to enjoy. For me is the best period in the automotive's design, the most beautiful cars of the world being created during these years, until the early 70's. And many of them were Italians or designed by still famous Italian designers. And when you put together into the desire to create a sport coupe, the hands of one of the best designers, Zagato and the knowledge of a famous sport cars house like Maserati, the miracle comes to life. Called the A6G Zagato 2000, to remember one of the Maserati founders, Alfieri Maserati and the 2 litre straight 6 cylinder engine, was part of a 19 coupes series. Is the model who start the partnership between Maserati and Zagato. The Zagato model was the most fit for racing, the methods used ensured a lightweight construction. The body was formed, by hand, in aluminium with the Perspex windows all around. Each car had remarkable differences both inside and out. The car itself is an awesome result of the classic design.

Having now, an idea about the real car, I'll go further to make an analysis of its scaled counterpart. BOS models is a relative new brand on diecast market and brings in scale unusual models of classic or modern cars. I said unusual, because they are replicating in scale models of street, racing or prototype cars that until now, no one thought or hoped to see represented in scale ever. All the models are made exclusively of resin and have no functional parts. The model comes in a standard black card box having printed on, the "BOS" logo and lettering. The model's data are printed on a additional label. A second styrofoam box has the mission to keep the model safety. Unfortunately the quality is very poor and every time, you'll find on the model's surface a lot of residues. Having contact for the first time with a boxed BOS model, is strange, at least for me was, because the product results very light. Continuing to dispatch, our model comes out, wrapped in paper, a good idea to protect it from the direct contact with the box, that from my experience can be fatal for the paint in the most cases. The model reveals its superb lines and comes out from the box easily, since isn't screwed on.
The model is light, but seems to be solid and well put together. As we are referring to a resin made model, the functional parts are missing, so you'll be able to manage it without many worries. The manufacturer followed the body lines precisely and seem that the proportions for the 1:18 scale was respected. The paint is smooth, not very glossy, uniform, without residues inside. I like the chrome quality, very realistic looking on the front and side ornaments, door handles and in the same way in the cockpit. Unfortunately they chose to replicate the window's frames in silver paint, instead of chrome, a very bad idea when we are to speak about the general view. The front and rear light are well done, realistic, being fixed without visible stubs: they are taking the place of the light bulb in the front side and are masked well by the dark color of the plastic, on the rear. Are beautiful surrounded by thin chromed frames.
The best part of the exterior is the massive front grill, perfectly replicated by the manufacturer. Is made by a metallic photo-etched grill and incorporates the gorgeous logo of Maserati, the Poseidon's trident. The last one was made by plastic and perfectly chromed, so as I said before all the ensemble is very good looking. On the engine's bonnet the double air vents are modeled along with the very thin ornaments replicated by fine photo-etched pieces . Are not cut through, but for their size this aspect isn't important. On the sides the air vents are not modeled or replicated, even by the black paint, their presence is remembered only by the chromed ornaments. All the logos and lateral badges are decals, well applied and legible. On the both sides the model features a real number plate, a good add to the realistic feeling. I was surprised to find the windows, made by a very thin plastic. Thinking about the real data of the car, this can be a strong point in a description, but not suitable for the other models. The worst part is that the windows are glued to the body in the most careless manner possible, letting visible unaesthetic gaps. I wasn't impressed by the windshield wipers, since are painted and not chromed as it should be. Even if are thin and well made close to the original, are looking poor.
As a sealed model, the details should be concentrated in the exterior, but when we are to take a closer look to the wheels the problems coming out. On.the real car the original rims are a kind of beauty, remembering me by the Borrani wheels from the Ferrari 375. BOS chose to replicate them without any dedication. The spokes are too thick, made of plastic of course and painted in the same boring silver paint, the correct shade if we must reffer to the real thing. The lug nut is chromed, but not marked and the air valve is completely missing. A round piece of plastic, hidden behind spokes is trying to figure out the brake system without any major success. The tyres follow a right profile, but are not marked. Wheels are turning, but something else disturbs me here: they are moving together using an axle. Something like this is more common on toys, not on a model supposed to be closer to reality.
Looking through the windows, the interior appears to be carefully done, following the simple line of the original cockpit. The gauges are looking good, being legible, together with all the switches on the dash. The steering wheel's wood trim is great replicated, but I wish a metallic photo etched part for the spokes instead of a silver paint piece. Seat belts and carpet are missing. All we can do more is to take a look underneath, but the details are poor, almost missing. The producer tried to replicate few characteristics, molding them in a plastic surface, but unsuccessfuly. Only the exhaust system can be easily observed.
Is time to have some conclusions after the first meet with a BOS model. The strong point of the model is the exclusivity and was made to be liked or not, excluding a impartial review. The quality is good, but many details were ignored. Is a model to have if you are a Maserati lover or if you are looking after the best classic shapes. If you are involved in details, this isn't for you. Is a pitty, because in the same range of price I've seen resin models very well done, a real surprise for me, too. For sure, the producer must fix many aspects of their models to achieve the status of „Best of the show”
